Simply majestic, Laguna de Apoyo is a 48 square kilometer volcanic crater lake that was formed 21,000 years ago.
The water is crystal clear, deep blue/green and provides great clean water swimming.
It is surrounded by a dry tropical forest that boasts numerous indigenous trees and small “howler” monkeys are a common sight.
The warm waters are full of minerals, and the temperature at the Laguna Sol project site is usually 5-7 degrees cooler than Granada. Add a steady breeze coming from the east and you have a perfect climate.

Laguna de Apoyo is a beautiful volcanic lake near the town of Masaya.
The Laguna waters are mineral rich and clean and safe to swim in.
The reserve that the Laguna is in is host to monkeys, iguanas, falcons, vultures, possums, common boas and more.
Most tours from Granada take visitors to the vista of the lake from the town of Catarina and charge separately for a visit to the lake to swim.
However, you can do a tour which includes the volcano, artisans market and a swim at Laguna de Apoyo.
